Awesome, but extremely scary.

A double decker freeway would be completely retarded.  The air near the 5 fwy next to my apartment also located next to Griffith Park TASTES DIFFERENT than the air MILES away from the freeway.  When I go running through Silver Lake and Los Feliz neighborhoods away from the freeway I am fine… then as soon as I head home and have to cross the 5 freeway… several miles before I even get to the freeway, as I’m running hard and sucking air down, I begin to get a disgusting sticky chest paining taste in my mouth from the air coming off the freeway.  This is in an area surrounded by trees so you would think that the air would be cleaner but because of that freeway the air is toxic.  I can’t imagine the solution to Southern California’s traffic problems is to DOUBLE DECK the freeways.  This idea is completely backwards and retarded.  The future of So. Cal needs to be less cars and more public transportation if we are going to make this place livable in the future.

Instead of double decking the freeway we need to put light rail trains EVERYWHERE… not just one line from North Hollywood to Downtown and another from the outskirts of Pasadena to Long Beach and LAX.  Every freeway and major highway should be making room down the middle of it for a light rail system.  I’ve had ideas about integrating light rail and subways into So Cal since I was in high school… someone out there who is in charge of this stuff needs to get their brain out of a sludge filled ditch off the side of the 405 and start working on making less of a need for all this heavy traffic.
