The Gooms!
Don’t ever move to Rancho Los Feliz in Atwater/Los Feliz if you like little guys like this. There are people that own dogs there and sneak them into the community but if you ask management nicely to approve a little pup like the guy above they will decline you and make you pissed as heck.
When I was about four years old my parents took me to a pet shop in downtown Laguna Beach and let me look at all the animals. My favorite of course were the puppies and at that particular time there was a litter of German Shepherd/Black Labrador mix. I think my parents must have been itching to get a dog and wanted me to help pick it out. My natural instincts led me to the female runt of the litter which I later named Lucky. I think by the time we ended up going to buy Lucky she was the last one left. She was the best childhood birthday present a boy could get. A loyal guard dog who thought herself to be more of a human member of the family than a dog. We wrestled and went on long adventurous walks and ran through feilds racing each other. The typical perfect cheeseball man’s best friend relationship. When I was sad and lonely she’d come hang out in my room. Whenever I needed a friend Lucky was there.
However, there were a few negative things about Lucky that either developed from a lack of training or the fact that she was a certain breed of dog and that’s just how they tend to be (esp if they aren’t trained properly). Had my parents had the internet at their fingertips perhaps some good research on dog breeds and how to train them would have been able to prevent Lucky from wanting to attack and kill any other dog she encountered. They would have been able to train her not escape our yard and get in fights with other people’s friendly dogs. They may have been able to train her to sit on command or play catch and just relax when other children or dogs were around.
Now as an adult I’m looking forward to finding another doggie best friend some day and I think I’ve found the best website to get my search started.
